About Don Pedro-Knight-Palm Island

The Island

Just off the coast of Southwest Florida, midway between Sarasota and Fort Myers near Englewood Beach lies a very special Island - special because Don Pedro Island (also known as Knight and Palm Island) and the adjoining island, Little Gasparilla, are in fact, a true Island with a Gulf beach 7 miles long. There is no bridge connecting our Island to the hurried outside world. This private, unspoiled Island is enhanced by seven miles of tropical, sandy white beaches, peaceful lagoons and the crystal green waters of the Gulf of Mexico. The beaches, shelling and swimming surpass all.

The population is varied. Sea turtles, magnificent water birds, raccoons, rabbits, an occasional bobcat, and an eclectic group of friendly "natives" are in residence year-round.

You'll revel in the simple pleasures here on the Island. Take a swim in the sparkling Gulf waters, or in a freshwater pool. Cast out a line for some of the area's best fishing. Whether you are fishing for the "big guys" or just trying to catch dinner, you'll not be disappointed, as the waters surrounding the Island are world famous for fishing. And if shelling is your passion, you have come to the right place. Many years ago, the islands joined, forming the seven miles of continuous white sand beachfront you see today, abundant with a variety of Mother Nature's finest shells.

Gulf beaches and all this, yet without any commercialism, high rises, crowds or traffic. Only private homes and villas are scattered along the Island coastline. This, combined with warm Gulf breezes and sun-filled days provide the perfect environment for a true Island experience. Florida vacation rentals and real estate on this beautiful island is a Florida tourism dream.

A leisurely pace is a must in this charming Old Florida atmosphere.
